Nouns Builder Protocol
Public Infrastructure brought to you by Zora and NounsDAO

Mainnet Launch: November 1st Expected DAO Launch: November 15th Website: nouns.build Twitter: @nounsbuilder
Like you, we believe that Nouns DAO is a significant form factor innovation for NFTs and DAOs. Instead of giving all power and capital solely to a project’s founders, the Nouns model enables communities to emerge progressively, and to be active participants in how their brand and community evolves.
We believe that more Nouns forks should exist - so we’re building a tool anyone can use to build them.
For the past couple of months we have been working on the Nouns Builder: a product that makes it easy for anyone to create their own Nouns DAO with any art, any auction cadence and flexible DAOs that can evolve over time.
As we’ve been building this tool, we’ve increasingly realized that it makes sense to use this very tool to create a DAO that will govern, sustain and develop the Nouns Builder project itself. By doing so, Nouns builder can:
- Demonstrate the utility of Nouns Builder as a public good
- Utilize the ecosystem of tools in Nouns: Prop House, Agora
- Experiment using the NounsDAO model as an alternative to the subDAO multisig
- Experiment using the NounsDAO model to proliferate a protocol and products
- Expand use of the NounsDAO model as a more effective governance model for collective decision making
- Share governance of this DAO with Nouns, Zora, and future contributors as interested in expanding the horizon of this public infrastructure as we are.
We are going to call this DAO “Builder”, with its own art and NFT that will be minted each day. Builder will be NounsDAO from day 1, with the goal of proliferating this infrastructure.
Core details to note:
- Based on extensive feedback from the Nouns community, the protocol is entirely free. There is currently no protocol wide fee.
- DAOs can opt in to gift a certain amount of their NFTs to Nouns or any other DAO or platform
- In prior versions of the proposal, we proposed that NounsDAO would be the deployer of the Builder DAO. Based on feedback from the community we have removed this aspect of the proposal.
- The protocol development has been extensive, with careful consideration made to
- Enable DAOs to easily upgrade and evolve themselves over time in a safe manner

Priced portionTreasuryAnnual staking yield
Spending is priced the same way the Coffer prices the treasury: today's prices, today's balances. Moving money between the DAO's own wallets, setting approval limits and swapping one asset for another do not count as spending. NFTs and calls whose effect is unknown are left unpriced.
The yearly staking yield takes what is staked right now at its current rate for one year. It leaves out auction income, price moves and any change to the balances or rates.
Action 1: A current ETH price is unavailable.
A current treasury and staking-yield benchmark is unavailable.

How a proposal moves through the governor
The proposer can still edit for a short while after posting. Then it waits for voting to open. Voting runs for a set number of days. If the result flips near the end, an objection period opens where only Against votes are allowed.
To pass, a proposal needs two things at the close: at least as many For votes as the quorum, and more For than Against. The quorum is not fixed. It starts at a minimum and rises with every Against vote, up to a cap, so a contested proposal needs more support than a quiet one.
A passed proposal waits in a timelock, then anyone can execute it until its grace period runs out. The proposer can cancel any time before that. The vetoer can veto a malicious one.
