Nouns Break Even Movement

So much cope under this topic... how is this working out for Nouns DAO?

For this group, I think doing a futarchy model and everyone delegates to it would get you what you want in terms of being a voting block. Just my 2cents

I actually considered a longer timeframe like 90 days as well. However, looking at the 90-day treasury stats, we'd likely need to vote down every single prop for over 100 days just to break even. That seems too extreme and would effectively halt all meaningful activity within Nouns for over 3-4 month.

Instead, starting with a 30-day break-even goal seems more manageable—it allows us to begin addressing treasury sustainability without completely freezing all proposals. Once we achieve stability at this level, we can reassess and consider extending the timeframe to 3-6 months for better long-term planning.

Open to ideas on how we can refine this approach.

I think this is a decent idea. but 30 days and no smoothing mechanisms make it too dysfunctional to be applicable in reality.

3-4-6 months seem like a much better timeframe to establish a 'budget'. smoothing LARGE outlays or somehow treating them different would make sense as well IMO. so that they don't completely destroy the ability to fund GOOD props that come in.

This is not about eliminating public goods, but about being more strategic with funding. Large-scale expenses will be reviewed more carefully to ensure they align with Nouns' long-term financial health.

Any proposal exceeding the last 15 days of DAO revenue should be considered an investment, not a grant. These proposals must include a clear revenue model demonstrating how they will financially benefit the DAO—whether through direct revenue, ecosystem growth, or other sustainable value creation.

The core metric is to maintain a positive treasury balance in every rolling 30-day window. If the last 30 days’ cash flow is negative, I will likely vote against any new funding proposals—regardless of their purpose—until we return to a financially sustainable state.

To all proposers, please do check this page before putting your prop onchain: https://www.nounswap.wtf/stats/treasury

These measures are not about cutting spending but ensuring Nouns can continue to fund meaningful projects for years to come. Let’s build responsibly.

Onboard, though, what does financial sustainability look like to you? Does it mean returning funds to the DAO, funding projects that don't constantly need to ask for more funding, owning yield-bearing assets, playing DeFi, {or something else}?

I'm in this with Jane.

Absolute cinema. It's a weird spot to try this approach. Did exist verlocity mean afrer my prop passes?

I'm generally aligned with this approach as well. Sure, some things can be 'one-off stunts' without the need to be economically rational, but those aren't the ones that would significantly drain the treasury.

Now that we are transitioning into a Duna, and can legally enter into contracts on behalf of the DAO, I would like to see us own things.... whether that means the DAO owning land in various countries where we can host events, or owning equity in revenue generating projects we fund, we should see meaningful attempts to help the DAO have some 'skin in the game' for the things we fund if possible.

Supportive. We have the option to use existing funds to grow but everything else equal, balancing our books on a monthly/quarterly basis would be a great milestone and a big push towards longterm survival.

I dont think 'living within our means' alone is enough for Nouns to prosper, but its a necessity and a start.
